Corian kitchen worktop

Hi everyone,
we're after a bit of advice for our new kitchen. Basically, we've picked the units, decided on a layout and have sorted out a reliable builder. The only remaining issues are related to the worktop; we have decided to go for a corian one, and are considering how to finish it.

We are going to go for a rounded upstand (about 100mm high) but have also considered continuing the worktop up the wall behind the oven (i.e. a corian splashback) and also onto the window sill. Has anyone doen either of these before, and/or do you have any picture links?

Any thoughts on good / bad points about it?

In case it's relevant, we are going for a white gloss Howdens Glencoe kitchen, with a black quartz / night sky corian worktop. Walls will be neutral paint (not decided yet) and probably some slate grey/dark wal tiles.

Thanks in advance.

I've done the worktop, coved upstand, windows sill before and it looks good.

Corian is a great, hypenic product and would make any kitchen look a million bucks.

Do becareful of darker colours in Corian, they show marks more easily and are often marked by Dupont as "not suitable for Kitchens"

Both the colours you've suggested don't list in their kitchen colours.

Thanks for that. Any thoughts on doing the spashback, or would you recommend a black glass one instead?

Yes, we're aware of the risk of marks, but we're ok with that. Basically, we're not a "high usage" kitchen, in that we don't do a massive amount fo cooking from scratch. So, with a bit of care, we should be ok. And with the slightly flecked pattern, we're fairly confident it won't look trashed in a few years...

Corian will not warrant splashbacks or upstands where they are less than 150mm (IIRC) of the hob. You can do it if you like but if there was a problem, the warranty is void. Glass splashbacks are a better options.

We've decided to go with the glass splashback (probably a liquorice black one from topps tiles http://www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod1588/section836/Liquorice-Black-Splashback-70x60cm.html) and will have some black porcelein floor tiles.

So, the only decision left is what colour to paint the walls - does anyone (more creative than me) have any suggestions on what would look good? Ideally with an example picture.

As a reminder, from the floor up, we're having black floor tiles, gloss white floor units, black corian worktop with 100mm upstand, XXX colour walls, gloss white wall units.

Origianlly we were thinking of a neutral (white / beige) colour paint on the walls, but now we're considering being a bit more bold. We picked up a few samples yesterday - aqua (http://www.wickes.co.uk/durable-matt-paint-aqua/invt/213894/) and buttermilk (http://www.wickes.co.uk/durable-matt-paint-buttermilk/invt/213891/?tapopen=cm ) were two options we considered.

Anyway, would welcome people's thoughts on colours to consider.

    thanks in advance

Are tops tiles the cheapest for the splashback?
I'd goto a glazier and ask for a quote.
People who deal with glass direct are often cheaper than third parties that buy it in.

Colour wise, depends on the room shape.
But I always prefer 3 walls as a neutral colour and one as a feature. (personal preference.)

    Thanks again.
Topps tiles are the cheapest, as we can convert Tesco vouchers into Topps vouchers, so it's only the equivalent of £28 of shopping!
