I was told by a Virgin engineer visiting my home that their vehicles are GPS tracked to make sure they don't do jobs on the side, if this is the case then the driver will have a tough time denying his whereabouts at the time of the accident.

You could go to police claiming fraud by this person. CCTV will show the van maybe minutes before your accident.......

I did not tell you this, but a lot of their vans have Trackers fitted, ask them to disclose the information held by the tracker log

A few issues here:
firstly how did you contact this claims company ? through your insurance or via something else and get reading the contract you signed for the "free" hire car.

Now on the driver: get 3 estimates for the damage and send them straight to the driver with 14 days to pay the value of the lowest repair.
Do not get involved with the company and its excuses, go straight after the driver yourself.
If the insurance for the van call make it quite clear that you will not entertain any more excuses or lies, that on day 21 you will issue a 7 day NBA (Notice before Action) and request an order for the Driver to attend court for questioning under oath before the district judge.
If they dont pay, do so !

Yes they have white vans, mainly do cab work
