A just incase post (help please)

Oh is registered disabled but works 16 hours a week. He has a progressive condition and his often in pain much of the day. Anyway, work has been helpful and he has been able to carry on his position within the company at just 16 hours a week.

The company is in trouble and have been for a while. Rumours are that the owner of the company told someone that the company is in so much trouble that if things stayed the same it will be closed within weeks. Apparently someone is checking this today with the owner, anyway OH is worrying a little and I must admit altho I am not worrier by nature, it will not realistically be easy for him to get another job (he has been with this company 15 years, so they are used to his disability).

I work 27 hours per week(£7300 per annum), but at the moment we get extra WTC & CTC because he works with a disability, so I am guessing this will reduce.

What other benefits will we get?

Are there any companies that will help disabled people find work or educational courses to help him retrain? His job is very specialised, but he is intelligent and mentally able, so I am sure he could learn another trade pretty quickly.

I am guessing if the company closes there will be no redundancy!

Any help, greatly appreciated

    Here's some info on redundancy

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/RedundancyAndLeavingYourJob/Redundancy/index.htm

You can model the change to your benefits on the Turn2us online benefit calculator.

A couple with children are only required to work 24 hours per week to qualify for WTC. I don't know the position when one adult has a disability but other mse members will know if this is different.

Does he receive Disability Living Allowance?

This organisation or similar might help with training/employment info (such as Scope, the Shaw Trust, Leonard Cheshire, etc).

There is also a Disability and Dosh forum on MSE.

If he is made redundant there certainly will be redundancy money,
1 week for every full year he has worked up to the age of 41, older than that it is 1.5 weeks, I believe the maximum is 12 weeks.

Also 1 weeks notice for every full year he has worked. (or pay in lieu of notice)

    Any accrued holidays.

    That is statutory minimum,

If the company goes bust, then he claims it from the government.

Hopeully it wont happen, but if it does, good luck to him in finding another job.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Wow thank you! I didn't realise that redundancy was claimable even if company goes bust. This will be great as it will be enough money for him to retrain into a career he has wanted to do for ages and should be able to do nearly full time hours until he retires, this will cheer him up :D

I hope the company doesn't go bust either as OH loves his job!!

    I also wish you luck.

When the company that my hubbie worked for went bust, it took us around 6 months to get the statutory redundancy payment from the government. This was 20 years ago, I don't know if things are the same now.

It took my husband well over a yar to get the redundancy he was due when a company went bust via the goverment so you wont have money to use to cushion the blow when he is dumped on the dole without a moments notice which is often what you get went a company goes bump.

Thanks for your good luck wishes. Hopefully he may know more tomorrow. We are used to living on no money and we can cut back even further so we will have to manage. Just hope if it does happen he doesn't struggle too much to find something else.

    Thanks again x

    Hey

Just a little update. Apparently an employee is spreading false rumours, but with anything like this there isn't smoke without fire.

Anyway, I found a nice little job in the paper for him to apply for today, hopefully he will, the process will do him good if nothing else :D
