Reclaim tax in USA?

I read this yesterday-

Under the heading - Shopping, it says
'Tax on goods varies from state to state and gets added at the till, but if you’re making a big purchase, keep your receipts, get them stamped at the airport and claim back.'

We've holidayed in Florida numerous times but never thought to claim tax back on shopping.

Is that actually possible? Anyone know?

You used to be able to do something similar from Canada and in fact if you are not British from the UK - its not all shopping its stuff that you can prove to have taken home with you then you can claim back local sales tax - cds clothes computers etc

How do I obtain a refund of sales tax I paid while visiting the United States?

The United States Government does not refund sales tax to foreign visitors. Sales tax charged in the U.S. is paid to individual states, not the Federal government - the same way that VAT is paid in many countries. If you are making a major purchase, such as a car, and you intend to export the item, you will want to contact the State taxation authority in the state where you will be making the purchase. They will be able to inform you of their criteria for refunding any sales tax paid.
