Hello,

I have quite a large back garden which was turfed about 3 years ago.I have a couple of issues.

A large percentage of the grass has turned to moss. It is so bad in the shady damp areas that there is hardly any grass to mow. How do I eradicate this and get a lush green lawn, cheap if possible?

I am not interested in gardening and tending to plants but my garden is south facing and with the right design ideas could be lovely. At the moment french doors lead onto about 12 paving slabs then i have loads of mossy lawn. I am unsure what I would like but I need a nice pation area, preferably with lighting so we can sit out at night.

We have no borders at edge of lawn so strimming is a nightmare but i dont wasnt soil but dont know what else to do?!

Would ike to spend a max of £600 but could probably do the labour ourselves. Can anyone help?

Thanks

If you search online you will find advice to improve lawns, namely aerate, then feed and moss/weed kill. I aerated mine using spiked sandals bought on ebay. They did the job. Then I spread combined feed, weed killer and moss killer, and killed some areas of lawn because the spreader applied too much in some areas. I recommend hand spreading. My lawn was vile a month ago, it looks better, but still thick with weeds, and some bare patches. Apparently continued cutting, and occasional feed and weed killer will improve it.

If it is beyond repair, then you will have to reseed/returf.

If you have lawn that is in shade and damp you will always have moss - whatever you do it will always return if you don't deal with the underlying problem.

Cut back trees that are casting shade if possible - scarify/spike and aerate the turf and overtime you will win.

If the shade/damp can't be got rid of - you will need to forget grass and go for plants more suited to the conditions.
