£200 charge to change surname on diamond insurance

Having just got married, my wife (still sounds so odd!) is going through the motions to change her surname for various documents. Some I accept will be chargeable, like driving license and passport but her car insurance are asking for £200 for the admin!!!

So my questions are this:
Is that a crazy request?
What other places will be asking for this kind of sum?
Any tips to do this cost effectively?

We've already laid out so much for the wedding, and this is completely unexpected.

Thanks in advance

Get some other quotes for the insurance from different companies, then cancell the one you have and change to the new one, don't forget to use quidco as well!

Also ring back the one that wants £200, and ask someone else about a name change, but don't tell them you have ready been told £200. It could have been a mistake.

Or just wait until renewal to change the name...it's a crazy request but they can ask for any amount they want to change the details.

£17.50 fee for mid term adjustments. From their key facts - Up to £17.50 for mid term adjustments (in addition to any premium adjustment that may apply); - they would be hard pushed to justify a premium adjustment on changing to a married name, and status from single to married, so I would ring them back, speak to a supervisor and tell them you will be referring the complaint to to FOS under treating the customer fairly if they insist on charging the £200. http://www.diamond.co.uk/policyDocs/keyFacts0212.pdf

£200 does not sound like an admin fee. It sounds like a change in the risk premium. Was an address change or other details changed at the same time?

Does sound like change of risk more than a name change

New address/job since taking out the policy?

Something more for that price change. Is that the new balance for the policy being paid monthly?
