ipad photo help

Hi there

I am planning to buy an ipad and it will really just be used for internet/email and viewing photos. I just wondered how easy it is to transfer photos from my pc? At the moment I have all my photos stored in folders in date/year order - easy to find. Can I store them on an ipad in a similar way? TIA

    No.
You basically have a big folder full of pictures. BUT you can create folders on the ipad, then move them into folders to separate. There might be a way of doing this prior to transfer, but I've never really explored that/found out how.

If you take a lot of pictures, you might be interested in the camera connection kit for the ipad. Allows you to either use an SD card to connect to, then copy pictures over, or a USB cable plugged into your camera, but not all USB connections work. Mine did, so it's a bit of a waste if only the SD unit works (as you have to buy both together)

Additionally you might find an app that allows you store/edit/folder photos.

Thank you so much for the quick reply! Ok well at least I can make folders to separate the photos - I was worried they would all be in one large folder and I would not be able to find anything!

I've had my ipad 2 for a while, and I'm still finding stuff about it, so it may be that you can transfer over in folders, but this I haven't discovered yet.
But as you have folders to start with (I do it myself as well) then you can just transfer one folder at a time, then move them on the ipad, do the next folder etc.

Consider what size ipad, as they are not expandable, and I'm sure you know how photos can add up file size wise. It might be that if you have a load of them you want to resize batched wise first to just reduce file size, but this you can experiment with.

As you have a specific use for it, aside internet/email/chat (that's negligible size wise) that could potentially add up to space, you should consider at least a 32gb minimum.
I'd prolly recommend the 64gb (largest) though, because you will find you want to do other things with it, and if you get the ipad 3, apps are larger because of the retina display, and them (apps) basically making full use of that. Throw on some vid, or music, and the space rapidly adds up (also it's not a true 64GB of free space, because of the OS, but that goes with any size, 16, 32, or 64)

**Also don't use it as the sole place you have pictures! Always have 2 back ups readily available. :D

Once again huge thanks for the info. I will not be putting all the photos onto the ipad just a few folders at a time when I want to show off hol pics etc!! great advice re the size - didn't know about the apps on the ipad3 taking up more space.
