hot water in the cold water?????

SOMETIMES when I put the cold water tap on in the bath, hot water comes out for a wee while then goes cold. Is this a bad thing? It's gas heating we have if that makes any difference. Don't know if it connected but if we don't switch the hot water on and the heating has been on all day that seems to heat the water up too but you don't get the same amount of hot water as you would if you switched the hot water on.

Could it be that the hot and cold pipes are close to each other, or are next to the heating pipes?
This could heat the water in the cold water pipe.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
Thanks it might be. I was just wondering if this is wrong though and should be fixed? Or is it ok to leave it.You may walk and you may run

Our bathroom sink taps are the same, and I was told the same thing its because the pipes are so close to each other. We haven't done anything about it and its fine only sometimes you end up with hot water on your toothbrush eurrgh!!They took my signature away!!!!

Sounds about right.
A good solution is to insulate the hot and cold pipes. You can buy pipe insulation for about 60p per 2meters. as long as theres enough room between pipes (there probably isnt as thats why the hot pipes warming the cold). Check the pipe runs and buy the thickness according to the available space.
its also a great way to conserve energy too.0
