Help! Cancelled car insurance
Hi
I hope someone out there can help? I renewed my policy in January however I bought a new car on the 2nd March & contacted my insurer for a quote for the new car, it was quite expensive & had a great quote from Sheilas Wheels through confused.com. When I asked what would happen if I cancelled they couldn't tell me what would be owing, but I figured it wouldn't be as much as the difference in quotes! Wrong. They want £63 from me, can they ask for this & does anyone know where I stand if I contest it?
Would be grateful of any advice. Thanks
Fiona

I had exactly the same problem with Easy Insurance (underwritten by Zurich) and ignored them. They never got in touch with me again!
Not that I'm advising you to do this of course.Halifax Personal Loan £23,000 :think:0 -
It will be stated in your paperwork, from your insurance company and yes they can insist as you have entered into a contract with them.
What there reaction will be be if you dispute the figure is any ones guess as scatz said he/she heard no more about it.
One problem with insurance is that different companies "favour" different cars and this reflects in their premiums, as you have found out this can be a problem when you change vehicles mid term, sadly i have also found this out on several occasions and it has cost me money. There are two sides to every story.

Whilst the insurer may write off the debt they will almost certainly cancel your policy for non-payment and then load you to the national databases... then for ever more you have to say you have had insurance cancelled which will certainly load your premiums by a lot more than £65 every year. Failure to say you have had your insurance cancelled then results in you also being loaded to the fraud registry which banks etc all have access to... The misses works for the counter fraud department for an insurance company and the number of phone calls they get from people saying their loan/ mortgage application has been turned down because of having not paid the cancellation fee of their previous insurance and then not declared the cancelled insurance to us is very worrying.... the death threats (either of suicide or to the misses) are fairly amusing though.
Just take it as a lesson learnt to do your home work before committing - though if you are within 14 days of the new policy starting you could cancel that instead as it may be cheaper.
You will also generally find that the cheapest insurers charge the highest fees so buying cheap can workout expensive. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
