Don't listen to the people above, they're being unreasonable.
You will just have to pay the £375 and notify your insurance company. We all make mistakes, this being a costly one!

If yours needs to have a bump taken out I can guarantee the damage you've done is far more than "a little scratch which may polish out".
The problem you have is that you looked at it as it was getting dark and took photos in the dark. What won't have been seen will be all the scuffing that has also been done and there may be a deformation of the panel you hit.
If you don't want to pay out then you shouldn't go hitting other peoples static none moving large lumps of blatantly obvious metal.
Personally if you hit me, I gave you a figure to settle outside of the insurance and you played the game you're now playing I'd go through the insurance to stuff your NCD. Even if they are inflating the cost, thats the tax on stupid you have to pay to avoid going through insurance. You may have protected NCD but a claim for this WILL put up your insurance for the next few years.
Insurance doesn't always go up! One of my family members wrote off a £15,000 car, got replaced and his policy was still the same!
He also claimed £1,240 for another accident - again, didn't go up!
Don't be so harsh on the OP. I bet you've made mistakes!

McNeff- i can almost guarantee that it wont of been £1k if it was done outside insurance;)
also if this guy gets this £35 back then why should you pay that on top of the bill?
when i bumped a beemer (an old !!!!!! one) a few years back i only left a trace amount of red paint ( it would of washed off) it cost me £100 to make him go away, it would of cost me more than £100 over the 5 years following it on increased insurance premiums.
Personally see the qoute in writing and if reasonable Pay it.Sealed pot challenger # 10

No it wasnt done outside insurance, my car was only 2 years old and I wanted to take it to the main dealer where I bought my car as was my choice. I did deal directly with the TP insurance, they were quite happy to pay it, I was more than fair, didnt use a claims management company and chose not to have a hire car, which would have cost them an awful lot more.
My premium was not affected either.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
What is to stop you giving the other person cash and then them going through the insurance anyway?
Insurance is the way to go for both parties here.0 -
If it's costing £35 then they should at least be giving print outs for the quote.
Demand the quote in writing, as well as a breakdown of required works. Then you can see if he is ripping you off with unnecessary work and fraudulent quote.
When I reversed into someone, we settled outside of the insurance as my excess was £750. The price to fix his car was over £500.
I got a detailed quote and was happy to pay.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
At the end of the day if you're not happy with the "quote" then go through your insurance. If you agree to go through the repairer then don't give the guy any cash, agree to pay and get a receipt from the repairer directly. If there's something you're not happy with at that point, refuse to pay for it.0

Bear in mind the other driver may need to hire a car while his is fixed?0

Why do I think that if the shoe was on the other foot the OP would be on here asked what kind of hire car he should have as the accident was not his/her fault and that he should not be inconvenienced by the poor parking of another person, etc, etc.
As already said £350 will hardly be enough to pay for a panel to be painted.
My Mondeo was hit from behind a few years ago, the only part replaced was the bumper and the metal bit underneath, this was then painted, the bil for this minor work was over £1000.
If you are unhappy put it through insurance as already mentioned then you can argue about your insurance excess with your own insurance company.
I reckon the other person is probably utilising a cheap bodyshop to get that kind of quote and almost certainly putting himself to inconvenience to try and reduce your liability.
The thanks he gets is you moaning about on an internet forum.0
