Random Texts about PPI reclaiming

Hi there,
Just received a text saying I can reclaim my PPI as they have information say that I can reclaim. Now I'm not going to respond the message anyway but they said I can reclaim over £2,500. So is there a way I can find out if I have a geniune chance to claim this or not? If there is already a thread on this, that will do for an answer. I am happy to try and fail as it wouldn't make me worse off
Thanks in advance.

These random spam text mails are a breach of Ministry of justice guidelines. They have no data on you. They dont know if you even had PPI, let alone if it was mis-sold and the figure they quote is akin to advance fee fraud. That is the bait to get you on the hook.So is there a way I can find out if I have a geniune chance to claim this or not?
Yes. You decide if you were mis-sold or not.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Hi
I agree that you shouldn't contact them back, these are very common, but personally best ignored, they tell everyone the same thing.
I assume you are aware that you do not have to use a claims company when this can be simply reclaimed (if you have a case) by just completing the reclaim questionnaire below.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step3
Send to the responsible company/business that set up your application.
Now to find out more on if you've had any ppi, you can try contacting the businesses direct, if any of them were taken out with your bank, you can call in while passing and they should be able to check the details for you, they may go back to about the last 6 years, some even longer.
Another way is to request a Credit report, of any loans/credit cards, any finance taken out over the last 6 years (if your not sure of the lenders names this will be helpful for you to know who to contact).
A full credit report costs £2, some offer them free of charge for 30 days, so read the T&C's of these on the Credit organisations websites, such as Equifax, Experian etc. (If you google them in you will find them).
Another way would be to pay £10 cheque or postal order to request a Subject Access Request (SAR) from the business you taken out the finance with, so for example if you had so many loans, credit cards etc with the same bank/business, one SAR is sufficient with the one payment as stated above, they have up to 40 calendar days to comply.
SAR letter template here if you want to do this:

However, I would try the free or cheapest way of finding out first.
For example, I had so many loans with Lloyds TSB, I emailed them and they emailed back with all loans that included ppi with the account numbers, I gave them my bank account number and a few personal/security details for them to track down the details.
Or if you call into your bank where you paid loans by direct debit, they may check the statements for you, the account numbers of loans are generally shown next to the loan monthly repayment.
It's rather straight forward really, because as long as you have your account number and your reasons to make a reclaim, you can continue to make a reclaim from the business who sold you the loan etc, by simply completing a reclaim questionnaire, keep copies for yourself as well.
You get to keep all your refund if successful and you will not have to pay out a claims company for doing this for you.
Hope this helps you.
Good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -

Cool thanks. i will go through this step by step. I don't think I did, but I am not sure if I did (no comments I know I should have checked!). So bascially, get the account numbers and forward to the bank (or online institution).
then wait for a reply?
If so, why not and I will crack on!!0 -

Your welcome.
The fact that you do not know about ppi you may have a case anyway.;)
So yes check directly with the bank/business first to check, they may even confirm on the telephone if your unable to call into the local branch.
If that fails, a SAR would help.
A credit report should give a list of businesses you taken out any finance with over the last 6 years or so.
Please keep us posted, all the best.
