Buying a secondhand Rover Metro

If the original poster doesn't want it
I might have it .
Brilliant little cars ,I had 4 over the years never let me down !!0 -
My mate has had several, all Diesels and he swore by them, probaly the cheapest form of travel other than a bike and Shanks' pony.
Good bargains to be had for those who are not badge victims.0 -
I had a top of the range Mayfair bought from new. It was OK for its time and what it cost; the only real nuisance was the engine cutting out in heavy rain. You then had to get out of the car in said rain and squirt all the electrics with WD40. It generally started again eventually.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

"£600 for a Rover Metro is a good price" - - Forgive me for spitting my tea out and calling you some obscenities!
Metro's are poorly built unreliable deathtraps. Best advice you will ever get is DON'T buy a Rover, especially if you're not capable of fixing it yourself WHEN it goes wrong. Get a Micra or something instead.0 -
Hi,You dont mention if its a petrol or a diesel.
The metro always goes around the rear arches, watch out for a botched repair job because the rust will come through very quickly.
If its the K series petrol engine, check the oil filler cap for a white mayonnaise, if its got that walk away or pay no more then £150 for it.
Check that the car is level front to back, if the front of the car is lower then the suspension needs topping up with fluid.
Otherwise the car is fairly reliable.
£600 is a bit rich for a metro, and personally i would go up a model to the 200 which is a much better car, the diesel model is almost bomb proof0 -

Funny, my last Metro had a 158,000 miles and 18 years on on it when I finally got rid of it. Unreliable it wasn't. Rusty around the rear wheelarches, it was.0 -

It will be a petrol. The metro wasn't offered with a diesel engine, IIRC.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
Sorry opera lover (probably another Metro special) but Metros came in all shapes and sizes and diesels too. The dealer that sold you the middling range Mayfair probably didn't have any stock of convertibles, diesels or Vanden Plas the day you were buying.0

My sis had one - skidded it on some black ice, slid up a snow bank and left it perched on a wall.
Up until that point it was a cracking wee thing. It was ten years ago though! Bits are still plentyful but just because it hasn't gone anywhere doesn't mean it might not be rusty.
Washing the car every week can leave the top looking nice but the underneath with more holes than a tramp's vest.
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
The Austin Metro / Rover 100 was designed in the 1970's.
Here's a link to its Euro NCAP crash test:
