I think you have a generous mum and she ought to check how much it will cost to insure you.

    About what?

The relative merits of manuals v automatics?
The relative merits of the Cooper and the One?
    The likely cost of insurance?
    The difference in running costs?

I know how much it is. I have to change to an auto

If all i am going to get is sarcastic remarks, dont bother- grow up and find something better to do.

All i was asking for was that my DI instructor has told me the gearboxes are unreliable, hence why i came on here to ask for peoples opinions...not sarky answers in response. Or have i posted in the playground section?

Don't know about the gearboxes being unreliable, a friend in work has been driving an auto for a few years with no probs.

Your instructor is spot on. Mini autos are over represented at the auction because of the number of failures in the box itself, associated control unit and wiring loom. A surprisingly poor piece of BMW engineering that it took a lot of "customer testing" for them to put right.
Unless you are getting a newish one I'd steer clear.

So I'm assuming you got your licence revoked (6 points in the first 2 years?) and when you retook your test it was in an automatic and hence are now restricted to an automatic only?
