Old debts no longer on credit file - Do I still owe the money?

I signed up with a debt management company in november 2005. Since then some of the debts are no longer appearing on my credit file.
I stopped paying the debt management company beginning of last year because I had some money I wanted to pay off all my debts with, I made offers, but nobody accepted them except one card which has settled on my credit file. Since then I get letters every so often from the other creditors.
My question is, now they no longer appear on my credit file - Can I ignore them? or is there some legal jargon I can throw on them so they can come to the table and accept a fair offer?
Example £4600 credit card they are offering £200 off the debt... (the limit on the card was £3,000 so just before they defaulted the account they hit me with as many late payment charges as they could). I'm offering £2,000 and wanting them to counter at upto £2,500.
Any advice on settling the accounts that arent on my credit file?

The debt may not be on your credit file, but there is nothing stopping the creditor or collector taking legal action.
So no, you can't necessarily just "ignore" them.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

But they can't make my credit file any worse can they...
I want to settle them, but dont want to pay more than I have to. Is there a way I can formally mention that they cant do anything to harm my credit file? so they might as well except my offer?0 -

Not with defaults.
But if they went to court and got a CCJ then that goes on your credit file for 6 years from the date of the judgement. And that is much worse than a default.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
