Mortgage Company have signed me up to their home insurance!

Ive recently bought a new house with a new mortgage and specifically remember the conversation I had with the company about home insurance. They still gave me a quote but both the man on the phone and myself knew that I wouldn't be taking it out.
Many weeks later after everything is complete I have received a letter saying that they are taking out the first installment of home insurance in 5 days!
The first issue is they have done this without my consent, the second is they are 3 x more expensive and thirdly, I would never pay for it monthly.
I'm now going to have to contact them to get it cancelled but of course I won't have given them enough time to cancel the direct debit (which they got from my mortgage as they are the same company).
I'm quite peeved at what they have done but I don't know what else to do other than cancel it and go away quietly. Surely they can't go doing this.
I know 100% that I would never have signed up for this!!

You can cancel the direct debit at the bank right up to the day before (and same day if you tell the bank it is going through that day and ask them to recall it)I'm quite peeved at what they have done but I don't know what else to do other than cancel it and go away quietly. You complain to them giving your reasons. They will listen to the recording to see if you have a case or not and reply accordingly and take action internally if they need to do so.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
