Condensaton in shed

I've been finding that things are getting wet and rusty in my brick-built shed. In the winter I noticed a lot of condensation drips on the inside of the roof. The problem has only started since I had the roof replaced, but a friend of my Dad's did it for free so I'm not sure what to do! I don't want to complain, but it was bone dry in there before:(

The roof looks lovely:rotfl:much better than the corrugated plastic that was there before. It's metal now, but there are gaps between the top of the walls and the corrugated metal iyswim. Is this the problem? Would sealing these gaps stop the damp?

Incidentally, I never asked for the roof to be changed, my Dad's friend is a builder and when he was round he said that it could do with replacing and that he would do it for me  :o

Hard to know without seeing it... but maybe the old leaky roof was actually doing quite a good job of keeping a good airflow. The new roof is maybe so airtight, that you need some airflow introducing. Airbricks high up in the wall?

It's definitely not airtight now, there are gaps underneath the roof. I'll have to take a photo, it's hard to explain. Basically the metal is nailed down and where you get the raised bits in the corrugated metal, I can see the sky through these!

Check to see whether the dampness is from rainwater or from condensation. Do you store water barrels for instance in your shed? What temperatures are being met.The roof material can get very hot at this time of year.

There are numerous reasons where dampness can originate, firstly check out where it sourse is, the the remady can be met.

    All the best

  • It's your tin roof causing the condensation, they are foam formers to block the corrugated gaps. You could also try and insulate the roof or form a ceiling and and plasterboard which will reduce or eliminate the condensation.

It's the metal roof. You will need to insulate it.
Try using some depron foam to insulate the underside of the roof.

I had the same problem when I had a tin roof on my garage. Foam insulation sheets has resolved the issue.

Had the same with my plastic and metal shed, the temperature changes left condensation dripping from the roof. Completely fixed very cheaply with a pack of cheap polystyrene ceiling tiles and a can of spray on adhesive.

I was more surprised they still sold those horrid cheap and nasty polystyrene tiles but found still around in the DIY's.
