Phones failing to pick up my wifi

About a month ago, I changed my router and password (via talktalk). For me, everything is fine, however both my daughter and son-in-law now say they are unable to connect to my wifi when they visit, despite them using the new password. They have to use their contract allowance, which is no problem, but it bugs as as to why they are now denied using my wifi.

My initial thought is that they should remove anything appertaining their phones recognition of my system, then search again, but I am clutching at straws. Any idea's.

Much more common problem than people think.

Are these by any chance Android based Smartphones?? The router manufacturer's website may have info in regard to incompatibilty issues with certain phones. A nominal google search will highlight other phone users are having with that brand of Router.

In my experience a phone call to the technical help line of the phones are a waste of time as its "never their fault".

I seem to get instances where suddenly my phones wifi just wont connect, i chnage the channel and the phone connects. Maybe try changing the wifi channel.

Check that your router is not barring their 'phones via a MAC access list on your router to which the MAC addresses of their 'phones have not been added.

It is also possible that the name of your wireless network is now different to the one stored on their 'phones.

It is further possible that your new router is using 802.11n and their 'phones only support 802.11b/g.

To these, add the more remote possibility that your new router is now operating on 5 GHz only and their 'phones support only 2.4 GHz.

All of these are configurations to check within your wireless router.

Hope one of them works for you. :)

Der! the problem was solved, it was my ID that had changed, not my password. I was giving family the information wrong.
