iPad Battery options

I've now had my first geenration iPad for a couple of years and been very pleased with it.
Unfortunately the battery life isn't what it was.
In general I used to go a couple of days without a charge, now I'm struggling to see a day out based on consistant usage.
I've looked up battery replacement options and Apple charge £85 and other companies will charge roughly £50.
Sounds like a no brainer from a money saving perspective however I've noticed that if you pay your £85 to Apple they don't so much replace the battery as replace the iPad either through mail order or there and then if you have a genius bar appointment.
Is this true and if so, what are the chances they are even able to replace my iPad with a first generation one?

it probably wont be brand new. It'll be a refurb. I'm guessing they do this, at the genius bar certainly, to save time. They then ship them all off, and have them mass refurbed. You can still buy the first gen refurb off the apple site at the very least, so they have some in stock continuously.
It may just be too time consuming to rip out a battery for those departments. aka genius bar, or at the place you "post" it off too, so a quick turnaround will just be copy it over (I'm assuming) then post a refurb out.
Which ever way you do it, make sure you have transferred purchases over, and backed up before you send it off.0 -
There is a world of difference between Apple batteries and aftermarket ones. Aftermarket ones may start off with a similar duration per charge but they'll drop off a lot quicker.0
