Sons new apprentiship....alarm bells ringing!

A brief history.....

My son is 19 and started his apprentiship 2 weeks ago. In this time he's hasn't had an induction so had to ask about what time he starts and finishes, holidays etc which he felt quite uncomfortable about.

He is paid weekly but was paid cash in hand without a payslip. A co-worker has told him he wont get one.

Now all this has rung alarm bells with me as you do hear about companies using the youngsters for cheap labour.

Is it worth ringing the college to voice my concerns?

Cash in hand sounds dodgey - I guess it's not a government apprenticeship scheme then.

It is a government scheme thats why the alarm bells are ringing!!!!

At 19, just left college, ......he doesnt know too much about the world of work .....YET.
So he needs a bit of help and guidance.

I'm not an neurotic mother just a concerned one, and wondered if a quick call to the college might be worthwhile or not.

Are you confident it is a genuine apprenticeship ?

What is the "apprenticeship" in ?

The college found him the apprenticeship through their scheme as he is registered with them, so it is a 'Real' one.

The Apprenticeship is in Electrical Engineering.

    Advice and help - yes

Doing it for him - no.

Show him what to do, advise him what to say but dont do it for him. He will never learn to do it himself.

I need the advise to be able to help him to 'do it for himself'.

But I dont want the college to think Im doing it for him because I'm not.

Its all new to me these apprenticeships, so I need the knowledge to be able to advise him,
so is it wise to ring the college?
Or am I going to do more damage?
