Insulating a suspended timber floor

Hi All
I need to insulate my suspended timber floor, has anyone done this and what do you recommend??
would you use loft insulation between the joists or polystyrene sheets cut up and both fixed with netting or timber laths, if so what thickness insulation would be best to use??
Thanks in advance

Morning,
We have fully insulated under our timber floor on the ground floor and it makes a sizeable difference in how warm the house is.
We took up all the original flooring (planks mainly though some chipboard)
Then between the joists we insulated with 60 mm of Celotex rigid insulation (Tuff R) (sometimes we needed battens but mostly the isulation held itself in place) taking care not to block air bricks etc etc. Then put new chipboard flooring down and sealed the edges with expanding foam for an airtight/draught proof seal. We then put underlay from tradeprices (Cloud 9 or the like ) and then carpet. It is such a difference and has been well worth while.
Hope this helps0
