Under 25 Car Insurance Question

Hi,
I am under the impression that once I reach 25 my car insurance will drop noticably. Does anyone know if this is factored into a quote as my renewal is 2 months before my birthday so the majority of my premium will be when I'm 25, or will they just see my age as 24 for the whole premium?
Thanks

  • as far as I know the quote is for the age you are when you take out the policy but don't quote me on that. I'm under 25 too

When I turned 25 it made very little difference to my premium.

I would have thought that most insurers would insure you for the same premium irrespective of how far off your next birthday is, just on your age, but if someone wanted to incorporate that into their premium model, there'd be nothing to stop them.

Unless you're planning on either going without insurance for two months, or switching part way through the policy, all you really care about is the cheapest premium for the right cover for you when you actually do renew.

It will only drop noticeably if you have been insured for a couple of years anyway and have a no claim bonus to add into the equation. A new driver aged 25 will not have a remarkably low insurance rate whereas a driver aged 25 with a 3 year no claims bonus could expect to see a difference. Another big factor is postcode and if you park in the street or on a driveway.

There is no age at which the premiums drop off a cliff (or at least not with any insurer that I have worked for/ competitor analysis I have seen)... unfortunately this is somewhat an urban myth.

Certainly with our systems the renewal price would be based on your age at the policy incepetion and not at the point the renewal is generated
