Having to restart modem at least once a day-help

Our ISP is Plusnet and we have a Thomson modem.
My laptop is connected wirelessly and my sons desktop is connected using an ethernet cable.
At least once a day we have to restart the modem to stay on the internet.
Sometimes though we can lose the wireless connection and not the wired one, other times both.
Is it the modem that is faulty?
Any help appreciated.

The total loss of internet could be an issue with micro-filters. Do you have micro-filters on ALL telephone points which have something plugged in?
Are you plugging the modem directly into a micro-filter on the master telephone point; an extension point; or an extension lead?
The loss of wireless connection may be caused by interference by neighbours routers using the same channel - use inSSIDer to find out. (Note: You have to install inSSIDer on a PC with wireless connection)
It could equally be due to interference from nearby electrical items including (but not limited to) Computer, TV, Microwave, Cordless Telephone, Hairdryer. How do I add a signature?0 -
Yeah,I've got micro filters on all my 'phone lines.
I have downloaded inSSIDer but not sure how it works.0 -
I thought you might say that.
I would suggest for testing purposes at least, plugging the router directly into the master telephone socket. This may help resolve the total loss of internet issue.
Have you run inSSIDer yet?How do I add a signature?0 -
I had a very similar probleem which I eventually resolved for a relative.
They are a couple of miles from the exchange and in the end it was a faulty phone socket which I had to replace. It took a few goes to find it as I did some other things (remove bell wires, remade joints etc.) before I found this socket.
That's my guess anyway.0
