What does he need it for?

Would a ank account with debit card cost less?

Thanks. Been considering that but a prepaid would be better. Best prepaid is probably Orange Cash but need to be 13. Can you get any contactless debit cards?

Per other posters, just get a 12 year old a debit card. It can be used just like a regular debit card & will not let them go overdrawn.

Suggest your son opens a bank account and starts saving - some of the banks will give him a debit card and then as he gets older progress his account to other products.

If you're feeling under pressure then just say no - he's 12 for goodness sake!

I thought about doing this for my two boys - but to be honest, there's not much they can buy with a card - it's great for online purchases, but not much else.
I use a Kalixa card for my personal spending money, as it's free to load from my Barclays bank account.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
