Options for rendering pebble dash?

Hi all,
We've just bought a house from the 1970s, it's got wooden cladding and pebble dash in various places which we'd like to replace with a normal off-white rendered surface.
Can anyone advise whether this is possible and rough costs I should be expecting from quotes? (part of the trouble is I'm not 100% what I'm asking for which leaves the door open to getting ripped off!)
Many thanks!
