I'm checking out train fares on various sites from Northallerton to Kings Cross 11th August, they seem to be fairly static at the moment, are they likely to get any cheaper over the coming weeks? Is it better to hang on? I'm thinking of getting a railcard from tesco clubcard. There will be 2 adults and 2 children.
Thanks

Yes they will get cheaper - what you are seeing is walkon prices which will not change.

Unless it's very recent, cheap tickets have not been released beyond 10 August yet

I've been watching the dates for the last few weeks, it is only the last few days that I have been able to get prices for August 11th, is that what you mean?
    thanks.

Having looked up the fares (perhaps I should have done so first...) the advances do now seem to have been released. You may get a discount on some of them for booking on the East Coast site.

There are a few (much) cheaper ones on Grand Central Trains as well

These fares will not get any cheaper as they will sell out. Barring a sale which East Coast do occasionally have. What prices were you expecting?

The superoffpeak return at £104 wil not sell out and will not go up.

for 2 adults and 2 children (15) between £184-£214 , we need to catch the later 2100hrs back as the football final may go to extra time etc, there is one about 1900hrs a lot cheaper but I don't think we could get back to Kings Cross from Wembley in time.

The F&F railcard will allow you to make the return journey for around £135 total booking on the East Coast website out on a choice of morning trains and returning on the 2100

A bit less if you are prepared to leave at say 0712

That doesn't include travel in London

If you have tickets for events at the olympics you can purchase the tickets earlier and cheaper through http://www.nationalrailgamestravel.co.uk/

I did this for my parents and got some good deals.

But the Olympic event tickets come with a travelcard, so that won't be a problem.
