Surely not, they expect her income to cover both of us? I know people in the same situation and they do get support. I don@t know on what basis they could say a £70 a week student loan is enough for two.

As far as income goes, it will depend on whether she just gets the student loan or whether she gets a grant/bursary as well. However, in your situation, her savings will also affect what you can claim so you better budget for receiving very little.

First, she can get a student loan for two people
Second she is on a F/T course of education

The latter will knock you both out from JSA IB, so they expect you to either get a student loan for a couple OR stop the F/T course of education OR don't live together.

    This is my understanding.

Here's what I suggest you do.
Finish your claim for JSA for yourself preferably do a JSA IB claim.
She should not be mentioned on the claim form as she is not yet your partner under DWP rules.

Go to the jobcentre and start signing on, wait for a decision on your eligibility.
If you are not eligible, if necessary, phone up to find out why.

It may be that your own student loan for this year stops you from being eligible until Sept 2012. but you may decide to sign on just for NI only until September. see this post for more info on NI only.

I suggest at first interview you ask your advisor about the scenario of partner moving in with you and she is on F/T Uni with Student loan. Ask if this will affect any future payment of JSA IB on a joint claim.

Also follow this up with a phonecall to the Benefit Centre to ask them the same question and INSIST on a callback from the benefit centre to answer this question, The first person you speak to is not in the benefit centre they just answer basic questions about payments.

The best scenario, is to ask for it in writing how it will affect your entitlement.

BTW your online claim will not start until the day you submit it so if you submit it after midnight tonight it will not start until tomorrow etc etc etc and if you have put a mobile number in your form expect text message with your appt details within 2 days otherwise phone 08000556688 to get an appt.

Some people don't tell the DWP everything they are required to tell them. but ask them and find out what they are on etc and are they registered as partners.

    .

There's no such thing as a student loan for a couple. You must be thinking about the Adult Dependant Grant.
