Play.com MBNA Credit Card

Hi

Just to make sure that i am thinking correctly, i'm looking for some advise.

I had a statement from Play.com in April for £657.77 the payment date was 7th May.

I made payment of £849.13 by 4th May so couple of days before payment date and I still get charged £3 interest. Is this correct?

From the terms of the account I understand I get an interest free period as long as I pay full amount each month which is what I have been doing since I have had the account. So could not understand why I got charged interest. They may be others with an MBNA account which may run in to the same issue as I currently do not understand where this interest has come from.

Just to note recent purchases have been for petrol, shopping, etc which accounts for purchases.

    4th May was a Friday.

If you made the payment (assume by FP?) after 4pm it won't go on to your account until the next working day.

The next working day was Tuesday 8th, due to the 7th being May Day Bank Holiday.

Doesn't explain why you haven't had a late payment fee, as well as interest, though?

No cash advances/withdrawals, credit card cheques or overseas purchases? These can attract interest from the day of the transaction rather than after the payment date. If you don't have any of those, and you don't have a late payment charge, however, then it is a bit strange. Does your statement show that the payment went through okay? Some people's banks now use the 'Faster payments" which will see the payment credited within a couple of hours during the working day.

    no betting sites?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Curious question but if the statement amount was £657.77 why did you pay £849.13?

I tend to pay extra, it was to cover the extra purchases i had made since my statement date.

Did not use betting sites or made cash advances.

The payment was made using Faster Payment so reached the account on 4th May.

I'm currently chasing this up with MBNA and there just as confused as me.

    Thanks for the responses.

As Yorky queried, was the payment made after 4PM? If so than it won't have credited till the 8th. What date is it showing as a credit on your CC statement?

Was made at 7am on 4th May just before I headed off to work, also shows this on the statement/transactions.

Looks like there is a bug in their system as I just called MBNA back after having found a message on my voicemail and the manager is going to ring me about it later this evening, the issue is currently under investigation on why the system calculated this interest as there just as confused as me.
