Car maintenance plans

Has anyone got or had anything to do with a car maintenance plan. I wondered if it is beneficial to sign up to one to spread the cost of work being done through wear and tear, general car care. I am on a tight limited budget and if anything happens to my car I don't know how I would afford to get it fixed.

Anyone got any suggestions please?

Thanks.

Why not just put money aside each pay day into an account for car repairs. Then if your car needs repairs then you have money for them.

That is a good idea, I know, and I try to do that but there is that fear that I might not have enough if something major goes wrong. I have heard about these schemes and wondered if it would be a good idea that's all. Thanks for your comment though.

If you want peace of mind it's worth it only if you study and fully understand the terms and conditions and are happy with the cover.

I've looked at a few different policies in the past and found that they exclude the components that are most likely to go wrong. Seemed like money down the drain to me.

For example, if a cam belt snaps, they'll want to know you had it replaced at the proper service interval. Even if they do cover it, they may not cover the consequential damage to the engine (bulk of the repair cost).

LeeUK's idea is a good one for those on a tight budget.
