Painting teens wooden table

Hi - looking for inspiration.

I have a an old plain wooden table that has seen better days. However, it is a good size for a desk for my 14 year old's bedroom. It is about 100cm by 60cm.

She would like me to paint it black but I'm wondering whether a design of some sort on the top would be a better. But - I'm no artists so would need an idiot's guide!

all I can think of is a Banksy type design but wondering if you can come up with any other ideas.

How about using stencils? If you do paint the wood make sure you use a good primer so it can key to the wood and then apply suitable paint. We painted kids bedside draws just cheap argos ones and used stensils kid did that bit they older and they enjoyed it.
