Glass in cereal bar

Whilst eating a snack bar today I came across a piece of glass. I called the company and explained and offered to give them all the details on the wrapper and box so that they could check the batch that it had come from. I was told they didn't take details over the phone and that I should send the bit of glass to them along with the wrapper and letter explaining everything to them again. Is this the correct procedure? I just thought it was strange that they didn't want any details.

  • Send everything in - this way they have proof that you're not just winding them up with a hoax call i should imagine

  • The glass in my food con trick is as common as whiplash :rotfl::rotfl:
  • Very hard to prove and very easy to fake as per yangs post.

I would take a photo etc before sending it in, recorded.

  • Ok, if you want to make sure something gets done about this and its not just brushed under the carpet take it to Environmental Health. They (or more likely the Public Analyst) will deal with it and you will get an answer. If you send it directly the company they will always tell you that it must have got in after production, otherwise they open themselves up to problems.

I once got a wasp in a bottle of South American bottled wine, took it back to Tesco and got a new bottle and my money back (I was only looking for a new bottle) and then a cheque from the importer but they said that the wasp had been identified as a European wasp and must have got in from my house. !!!!!!!!, it was picked red when it came out.

Anyway, to cut a long story short I would have loved to have found out that it was some foreign beastie but then the importers would have a major problem had they admitted to it.

To cut a long story short its Environmental Health next time and at least I will find out exactly what it is!

Thanks for all of the advice. I'm going to photograph everything and send it to them recorded delivery along with the bar it came from and the remaining unopened bar in the box it came in.
