Best Passbook savings account

Looking for the best passbook savings account, they don't seem to pay very good rates of interest now though.

The better rates all seem to either be for online or post only. Are there any suggestions for a branch based passbook account only paying more than 0.1% interest?

Cheltenham Gold from Cheltenham & Gloucester pays 1.90% or more.
  • Skipton Building Society has a passbook based account at 2.50% and I think Leeds Building Society has a special Jubilee one at 2.65% (minimum balance is £100 though!)

There seems little point asking people to suggest best branch access passbook accounts as by definition they will be of no use unless the suggested organisation has a branch locally to the person asking the question.

Some sites list branch access accounts but not all of those come with a passbook. The only tool that does the job that I have found is this one
    http://www.money.co.uk/savings-accounts/instant-access-savings.htm

Select Instant Access and Advanced Search. Then Account Access and Passbook.

I agree, it's a bit difficult, but I thought best give suggestions anyway, as you never know where they may live and the ones I suggested were the ones I knew from my own enquiries, so didn't require any extra effort!

Many passbook accounts can be operated by post - there is not necessarily a need to visit a branch at any point.

Quite true. I'm happy with my Monmouthshire passbooks that'll never get re-stamped but I still get my 4% with post and online access :)

But the OP did specify branch-based, and suggested that 'online or post only' is not what they wanted.
