Work tops are the item that needs most skill, have you got many corners? Or are getting granite from elsewhere?

I would get 2 or 3 more recommendations from howdens and go and see other jobs they have done.

Thanks, It's more or less a galley style kitchen with two lines of worktop, so no corners. Only one wall would have wall units as we have a lot of big windows. If I removed a radiator, I'd probably be able to have a U-shape, but because the kitchen is narrow (2.5m) I don't think we'd gain that much space so it's probably not worth it.

Yes, that's totally right Kitchen Design R - I'd rather pay a little bit extra and get it totally perfect than risk getting it messed up. I also want someone reliable and trustworthy. Thanks for the tips on the portfolio's, I will ask to see them.

I know a fantastic fitter just outside Cardiff used to fit Howdens showrooms for them

Thanks adamg, unfortunately I'm a lot further west than Cardiff.

Adam, do you know roughly how far he travels for work? I'd imagine though that it would be too far really.

He came around to quote for the plastering work but missed out by a small amount in price (£1700 vs £1600)

    And therein lies the rub.

Seems to me your bottom line is money - so maybe you need to find the cheapest up front price and then maybe pay for it all to be done again.

    When will they ever learn.
