young marmalade

My partner has just passed his test, he is 22 and we are currently looking at offers and came across a website called young marmalade. It allows young drivers to purchase a car with insurance over a number of years. Just wondering if anybody has had just them before?

Have you looked at prices for 5ish year old cars and insurance? Your partner could get insurance for the right car for under £1000 in most places. My first insurance at the same age was only £900 for a modified car.

Sites like Young Marmalade often are more expensive. New cars also look worse if they take a knock.

You usually have to have a monitor fitted to watch your driving and these can change your premium if you drive at high speeds or at night. EDIT: Even worse the young marmalade one seems to rate roads as to the risk, so if it's a high risk road you can be penalized!

EDIT: Just looked at the site - a parent needs to be on the insurance, you have a monitoring device fitted and only drive 10,000 miles a year.

  • Hi,

My advice to you is to avoid Young Marmalade. I had money for a new car, but decided to buy a car in full, but I did notice that the credit options that dealerships do (the same terms as YM) often turn out cheaper than going through YM.

My honest advice to you is to go to a dealership and finance a car that way. And then buy insurance normally. YM gave me a quote of £3,000 comprehensive insurance!!!!

When I had my old car (I still drive it atm until I get my new car), my insurance policy was £1,100 for 10 months (10 months NCB booster) Third Party Fire and Theft. When I put the deposit down on my new car yesterday, I phoned up my insurance company (Admiral) and they said that it will cost me £180 more but that's for fully comprehensive. That covers me until October.

It's really worth looking around. I've heard a lot of bad things about Young Marmalade.

Being aged about 22, there should be no problem with 'sky high' insurance.

Just keep looking around at all your options ;). YM in my opinion is too expensive.

    Thanks
    John.
