Bacs payments

Hi can you help me please? I made myself bankrupt on the 1/3/12 and my bank account is in recoveries with RBS. Unfortunately my housing benefit was supposed to go into this account. Having spoken to the bank it is not there. And should of being in there on fri 18/5/12. Does this mean that the bacs payment will bounce back to the housing benefit? So then they can send my payment to my new account. Totally stressing about this as it is my rent money any advice would be gratefully received

Is the RBS account still open or has it been frozen? If it is closed or frozen then the money should bounce back to the sender. If it was sent by BACS and was due to credit your account yesterday then it will probably not get back to the sender's account until Tuesday. I would speak to the remitter on Monday and see if they can send it to you new account, although they are likely to want to wait until they can see it has bounced back to them.

In my experience of frozen accounts (deceased cases) - they still accept incoming payments. It is outward payments that are blocked.

But it should bounce if the account has been closed.

I disagree - if the account has been transferred to Collections then the original sort code and account number will be invalid - the account will have been closed and the benefits should bounce back - how long it takes is anybody's business.

I work for DWP so not Local authority but system MAY be similar, our payments bounce back if sent to a closed account but we will only replace when it shows on our system as returned.
