So we're still in the dark ages
    Probably the middle ages now.

The dark ages were a few years ago, when a BACS transfer request made on a Saturday meant the money arrived the following Wednesday...or Thursday if you sent it from Halifax or Santander/A&L...or even Friday if you sent it from YBS.

But that's only because the person who gave you the cheque decided to stay in the dark ages.

They could have transferred the money to your account instantly, had they wanted to.

If you'd written it on papyrus it would have taken longer perhaps.

    Cheques are not progress.

When I said it was a Nationwide cheque, it was from the Nationwide on one of their own cheques - not dark ages, more like stone ages !

Is it always free, there's no hidden charges that I'm unexpectedly going to be faced with?

Does Lloyds daily limit apply to Saturday and Sunday being counted as 1 day? Only they are saying I have exceeded my daily limit....and they won't let me send any today.

If I could find my PIN for telephone banking would Lloyds let me send some today by phone? I don't think I'll find that PIN though. :(

i think it depends on the bank , the type of account / customer . I can do faster payments out of our company barclays account at any time and for free , yet recently one of my customers could only do 3 day bacs from their barclays account for free , faster payments would cost them ( or so they said lol )

Your customer is talking b*llocks. Faster Payments from personal accounts at all major banks are free of charge when conducted over the telephone or over the Internet. Some banks levy a charge if you do them in branches, but over the phone or Internet they will be free.

Does the Post office do faster payments send/receive? What is their daily limit? I am thinking of opening their new online saver 3.17%

They do do faster payments but in their current terms and conditions leaflet they refer to making these as 'BACS payments' (same day if requested earlier than 4pm on a 'Business Day') - it will be a faster payment, however, despite the label.
