Can I claim through my credit card??

Hi everyone

This is probably a stupid question, but as a poor student here goes. .

I recently returned a parcel to a company as the item was unsuitable, as per their returns policy. I did not get a refund and on contacting them was told they had never received the parcel. They advised me to claim via Royal Mail, but the parcel was worth more than the standard insurance and the lady in the post office told me I may not even get a refund as Royal Mail could say I sent it back using the wrong service.

Anyway, my question is as I used my credit card can I claim the money back through them? (Sorry do not really understand the credit card claiming thingy!!:o)

Thank you to anyone who can offer any help/advice.

x x

Before claiming from anyone you might have to prove that you sent the item first. Not sure though. Does the tracking show it was received?

I don't use a credit card sorry but my advice would be see what your card t's & c's say and give the card provider a ring or e-mail them for advice.

    Hi,

your credit card company would not be able to do a chargeback under the issuing scheme (Visa, MasterCard or Amex) unless you had a refund voucher i.e the merchant confirms in writing that a refund is to be processed to your card.

If you returned the goods via a trackable method is there no proof of reciept that you could go back to the merchant with?
  • Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I have my proof of postage not sure about the tracking tho. I didn't think I could track it, I thought that was for recorded delivery only??

Yes, you must have sent it via recorded or special delivery. The former not being that reliable but at least it'll say whether or not it got there.

If you only have "Proof of posting", then you don't have proof of delivery, and it could have been lost at any point, so you can't make a claim against the supplier, only royal mail. How much did you insure it for?
