Asda in Cheltenham the new one, The Sedgeberrow by pass also makes some entertainment its very wide for about a mile you overtake someone and whilst you do that some plank overtakes you.
Best part of it on the motorway at 80 mph its only doing 2000 rpm and you can get about 22 mpg going steady.
However going to Dorset and back about 260 mile round trip i stuck £70 in it and it was on fumes on its return

I've just had a search on autotrader for 5 series and £800 will get you a 528i fully loaded with full BMW history. I know what car I am getting next!

8mpg? Not surprised in 2nd gear at 80mph... Fool.

My boss ran a 540i for a few years and managed mid 20's. He then replaced it with a 535d and that does less lol.

I've had an XJ8 for 10+ years now and its fuel computer shows 7 mpg. instantaneous on full throttle but overall it does 25-26 mpg. Periodically I go through the same debate over sell/keep but after any drive I decide "keep".

Yes the 535 would be a lot better on fuel, about 40mpg on the motorway.

Simple, keep all of the benefits of a do-everything-well 5 series by buying a smaller engined one, get better mpg and reduce that V8 induced nose-heavy swing into fast bends.

Years ago, I had an old 1982 528i (E28 model), with an LSD and Getrag gearbox (down for first, up and right for second), and it was one of the smoothest and coolest cars I have had. We took it down the Mulsanne straight at around 135mph (on remoulds), it was an absolute blast!:D
