Ebay Postage Scam - Beware!!!

Hi all,

What a start to the weekend im having. I sent an item sold on ebay to a guy in New York. Once it was all packaged up and booked in for fedex collection I got a message from him saying "dont send it to that address send it to the this one". Which I did, that was my mistake.

Of course he's now saying he hasnt received it but the really weird bit is that all the ebay message correspondance between him and I has changed from what we were talking about at the time (such as the change of address) to just messages saying "please confirm you are sending it the original address". How has he managed to do that?

Anyway, I dont know what im going to do about this as any evidence that he wanted to change address has vanished. He's got the item and I suspect paypal is going to give him the cash too.

Be careful everyone, only send to the address on their paypal account. Its for your own good.

The copies of the emails as you reply will be in your "Sent" eBay email folder, within My eBay.

unfortunatly for you if they open a case in paypal you will have no protection as you did not use the address paypal gave you to send to so have lost your seller protection.

Hope it wasn't an expensive item. But if you ever get anyone asking you to change the address again, ask them to add it to paypal so you are covered.

Thats the lesson everyone should learn. Dont post anything to anything other than the paypal address.

As for how the guy managed to alter the previous email correspondance is a matter for ebay to investigate. They probably wont bother until 1000 more people make a similar complaint.

Expensive item? - It was worth about 100 quid more than I like losing.

I was reading someone's feedback and they had a negative because the buyer was annoyed that the seller had refused to send the item to a different address than that registered on paypal - they had moved house.

Why do eBay allow such negatives to ge left?

Because, I suspect, it's not been challanged.
