Mother & Child Floor Lamp question

About 2 years ago we purchased 2 x MON4975 DAR lighting Montana Antique Brass Mother & Child Floor Lamps.

We have had constant problems with both lamps, mainly the 300 watt R75 118mm linear Halogen bulbs which last no time at all and are quite expensive to replace.

The shop where we purchased the lamps did replace the first set of bulbs but really do not want to know and are not very helpfull at all.

Now one of the lamps will not function at all, I have replaced the fuse to no avail and suspect that the internal dimmer switch has failed.

My point is that I would like to contact the manufacturer and tell them of our findings with their product and also to see if I could replace the lighting units with low energy bulbs.

Has anyone any further information that they could share with me.

Kind regards

BobUK

Your lamp is wholesaled by Dar Lighting in Banbury

I doubt you'd be able to convert to low energy - the wiring & lamp holders etc are set up for halogen lamps, but as you suggest, I suspect the dimmer has gone. Dar might be able to supply you with a new dimmer, but they're tricky to fit.
If you do get it sorted, running the 300W lamp at less than full power can shorten it's life - keep it full whack to make it last longer!

sew what .. Thanks for your comments. I did notice the last time I visited the shop where these were purchased, similar designed lamps running off the low energy bulbs, so it was my thought to see if it was possible to convert to these fitments by a total rewire + lamp holders. . Yes I can see that the dimmer is in a very tight fit situation that would be very tricky to replace. It would be my last resort to scrap these beautifully designed lamps but, being a pensioner, I find it difficult to warrant the cost of constant replacement of bulbs.

We do, as you suggested, run these lamps 'full whack' becauce they are used to light up our conservatory which is around 40+ sq m.

We have reverted back to our old Table-lamps, fitted with low energy bulbs until we can decide what to do for the best.

    Kind regards to you.

PS I note that DAR in Banbury are for Trade contacts only, so I can only really go through their outlets.

Convert your 300W Halogen to an E27 screw lamp holder and fit a 20W low energy bulb. If you lay it on its side, it will not be visible in an uplighter
By-pass the dimmer switch and fit an on/off switch.
Get an electrician to do it if you are not competent.
300W lighting was a bad idea.

Moss5...Many thanks for your positive suggestion(s) Yes I will get an electrician to convert both of these lamps. 300w lighting was never a good idea I agree, but with the greatest of respect, the area that is required to be illuminated is 40+ sqm. But your suggestion would save these lovely lamps from being scrapped.

    Regards to you

I used to buy off them (as a retailer) and then worked for one of their competitors - Dar always offered excellent customer service, it's certainly worth giving them a call to see if they can help. We imported similar units and always carried spare dimmers as they were known to fail oiccasionally ;-)
