Were to go in Turkey?

We spent a week in Akbuk which is an up an coming resort near to Altinkum (so fly to Bodrum). I have to say it really cooled down the first week in October, so take some cardigans but still it was nice and quite chilled out. Having travelled extensively throughout Turkey I'd give Marmaris a miss and Itsanbul would be my first choice at that time of year.LBM: 22.12.2010 :j Self-managed DMP start 29.1.2011DMP Mutual Support Thread No: 4130

We too go to Hisaronu. It has changed a lot over the years but we still enjoy a week there each year just chilling by the pool by day, walk round village and meal out at night.0

my preferred place in Turkey for 'foreigners' is lady's beach near Kusadasi.--i live in Turkey and go to Eski Foca near İzmir during the summer because of the cooler air temps but otherwise it would be Lady's beach if i wanted to mingle with 'foreigners'!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

A lovely little Turkish town on the river. Very friendly locals.
Make sure you get plenty of Sinkov, for dealing with the friendly locals you could do without.;)0 -
IWe stay in a place called Hisaronou half way between Fetiye and Oludeniz, about a 1,000 foot up in the mountains, slightly cooler. Someone previously likened Hisaronou to Blackpool, well not like the Blackpool I remember.
I think I'd stay just along the road in Ovacik, and make The Friar Tuck my 'local'. At least by basing in Ovacik there's a quick escape from the after dark goings-on in Hisaronou.
Took the dolmus up there from Fethiye a couple of weeks ago. Stunning location, but I didn't quite 'get' Hisaronou. I had to giggle at a bar/club with a great big bulls head outside, obviously a place that really rocks. But it's literally a few yards from a mosque.0 -

Icmeler is a quick dolmus ride away from Marmaris, with a lovely calm feeling to it.0 -

Hi Pete
First time we went to Turkey, over 20 years ago. We stayed in Ovacik, only about five hotels, and a couple of bars. We used to walk to Hisaronou. The next year we stayed in Hisaronou down by the PTT, kids used to get told off for jumping in the pool etc, so we had a walk through the village and found the London Hotel. Been going back every year since, hotel is a bit like Fawltey Towers, but its clean and cheap.
I guess we have seen things change over the years but have not really noticed them
Maybe bump in to you one year
Take care

I suspect that choices in Turkey are just like everywhere else- one man's meat is another's poison! It depends if you want quiet and moderately authentic, or a big hotel with a beach.
Yes, I have stayed in Kusadasi and I hated it! However did go on some fascinating trips from there to Ephesus, Didyma & (one of the best) Pergamon.
I have been in May & October because August would be too hot for me. Just be aware that the season ends in October, I was there the last week of the season and we watched all the businesses being packed away, it felt very strange as familiar shops etc closed for the winter. I guess ours was one of the last civilian flights out of DalamanBeing polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
