BT business line

I am clued up on cheap home phone calls, primus, 18185,1899 etc but my problem is someone elses. I am working with a local charity and they have a telephone for which BT are charging about £100 per quarter. So I said I am sure I can beat that. When I did a search on Martins pages the best that came up was one offering unlimited calls for £4 (odd) per month. Then when I contacted the firm they said since we had BT business line their offer was not applicable and gave me a much pricier offer. Any help before I buy an orvhid dialler and connect to 18185. We have some 30 different volunteers in the shop and explaining that they have to dial a prefix is not an option.

I know nothing about business lines but would suggest an Orchid V2 'fit, program and forget' LCR will meet your needs. Sign up online (or phone and mention MSE) to get the 20% discount Martin negotiated some time ago and it'll only cost £8.79.

P.S. If it's a single line, the BT site shows a price of £41.15 + VAT for line rental - so the rest of the £100 (i.e. about £60) must be for calls. £60 would pay for 1200 calls at 5p each using 18185.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Also worth a look at is Euphony Business Line Service.

£5 a month gives you up to 1000 inclusive minutes. Ideal if your calls are less then 5 minutes a time.

If the charity,s line was on a BT Business Plan Contract ,BT would expect them to stick to committed call plan charges through them, even if the BT bill went down by using 18185.

18185 calls are going through anyway. I had a chat with the kind man at Orchid who said they have that system going in thier office.

Yes it will work, but if they have signed up for a min spend on a BT Business Plan,BT will hold them to it.
