Buildings Insurance - Expat with with parents living in UK house

Help please - I am an expat living in the UAE we have 2 houses in the UK one is let so have landlord insurance on that - the other my parents live in and we stay there when we are back in the UK (which isn't that often) - any insurance experts out there that can advise on which type of buildings/contents cover we should have on this - all the contents are actually owned by my a parents. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Wait for others, but I don't see why you can not insure the buildings & contents as "a family unit". You can definitely insure the building - as it's your property - and your parents can insure their contents. But I would have thought one policy to cover you all would be entirely possible.

Check insurance companies but any quotes I have ever done ask if the people living in it are family. If yes then seems to be no issue with just getting a standard policy.

Sort of. The first question (or assumption) is usually - is this your main residence. The next can be - occupied by you and members of your family.

I don't see a problem in the OP getting buildings insurance (and parents getting contents insurance) but need to be careful with the questions/assumptions as they vary from insurer to insurer.

I'd say you would have the buildings insurance if your parents are living there permanently and you own the property.

They would have their own contents insurance then.

As above though wording changes from each policy so check before buying.
