Protecting ideas

Hi
I have an idea for a new business/product and I was wondering how I would go about protecting it or even if it is possible to protect the idea.
Basically the idea does not involve by new technology but another companies that I want to use in a different way and it certainly is not a brand new product . but when put together it could realistically end up being used as a standard product/installation all over the world saving businesses £1000's of pounds a year once installed.
Now seeing as it is not my technology and the certainly are not my invention, could the idea of putting these two things together still be protected as my idea with a patent or anything like that?
Probably have not explained my self properly but any help will be apprieciated.
Thanks

It is tough! If someone wants to hose you, they will, but seeing an IP lawyer might be your first option.
As an approach, how about finding a major supplier of the technology you want to re-use and approaching them with your lawyer for a quick cash-in or maybe see if they'll give you a small license fee per unit - but they do all the heavy lifting? No risk to you0
