For those of you lucky enough to have a modern mac or pc with firewire 800.
for real safty by 2 and raid 1 or for a 500 gb safe disk by 3 and use raid 5.
If the data is only on one disk its not a backup
Remember firewire will almost always beet usb as is a 'better' design it also uses less cpu power. Also you can swap the hard disks in these enclosures can be swapped so you can add bigger faster disks later.

its a good price for a Western Digital device with massive storage. I'd love to be able to afford one of these hooked up to a Linksys NSLU2 with modified Linux installation on it /is geekish.

Oh cr*p when this was £116 and the Pro was £126 I could justify going for the Pro but now its £35 more I can't. I wanted the silver as I have two black Premiums already. LOL

Stil cant decide between this and the 500gb packard bell for £124.99 @ PC World. it's smaller and looks better!

Anyway, if you do go for this dont forget 0.1% @ Quidco. Only about 90p but hey, it all adds up
