Keep everything in plastic boxes - we had a hedgehog raid our chocolate one night and a mink was attracted into the tent by the fat left in a frying pan.0

These are brilliant for camping food

The 'Look what I found' range has chicken curry.chilli, meatballs, bolognese etc - I have seen them for sale in Tesco, Asda and sometimes Aldi.
They are really tasty and one of these plus a bag of ready rice is a dead easy meal and easy for me to store too as I have limited coolbox space.0 -
check out the camp site on google earth before you book up0

THREE TIN BEED STEW
Cheap, quick and easy, and also delicious, warming and filling. Useful as an emergency meal, especially if you have no water supply, as it uses the water in the tins. Also useful for camping or caravanning. Not recommended for backpacking, though.
Makes 4 x 250ml bowls
INGREDIENTS
1 tin of stewed steak in gravy
1 tin of new potatoes in water
1 tin of carrots or peas in water
METHOD
Open the tin of steak. Put the steak and gravy into a saucepan.
Open the tin of potatoes. Drain the water into the saucepan. Cut the potatoes into 2cm (1 inch) pieces. Add the potatoes to the saucepan.
Open the tin of carrots or peas. Add the peas or carrots and the water to the saucepan.
Stir thoroughly.
Put the saucepan on a medium heat. Bring to the boil, then turn down the heat until it is just boiling (simmering). Put the lid on the saucepan and continue to cook for 5 minutes until the potatoes are cooked.
ADDITIONS & ALTERATIONS
Use both a tin of carrots and a tin of peas.
Add a beef stock cube.
Add a teaspoon of dried parsley.
TIPS
If any of the potatoes are damaged, mash them up and add them to the saucepan. They will help to thicken the stew. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Apologies for any duplicates....
Firstly, think about how you pack the car, packing things that you will need first (ie tent) in the most accessible place. Having to empty the car in the pouring rain to find a mallet is no fun, believe me
Echo, echo the advice to keep a spare change of clothing in the car, in case everything gets damp. We learned this from bitter experience
Also, keeping everything in plastic boxes with lids, or (as I might have once read on here), taking S hooks (is that what they are called?) to hang up bags of food on the tent frame, if possible, just in case of 4 legged visitors
Some camp site shops will re-freeze your ice packs for you, but you may not end up with the original ice blocks, so maybe buy some cheap ones from the £ shop, just in case, as we lost our expensive ones
Take some £land or similar paper plates and disposable cups
I read in the camping and caravanning magazine (yes, I am a geek) how useful those bright coloured plastic trugs can be for washing up, storing toys, bathing babies, etc
Oh and take any rubbish to the bins last thing at night, as leaving it outside the tent attracts seaguls at approx 4.30am (something else learned on first camping trip - that trip was a steep learning curve!!)
Finally- echo the advice not to BBQ, etc inside your tent, to eliminate the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning. Especially as tents nowadays tend to be so well insulated
I must have lots more, but my brain isn't in camping mode!0
