How to save money on inkjet cartridges?

Generic ink does not damage the printer, that is a scare tactic put out by the printer manufacturers. You can get it from most of the on line cartridge suppliers. Argos used to keep it - no more, I wonder why ? (Tesco also, I understand have been "persuaded" not to sell refill kits)
Thanks very much for this - since there don't seem to be any compatible cartridges on sale that I've been able to find after googling, the refill route looks like that way to go.
Can't believe I've been spending all this on ink when I didn't have to!0 -
We started to refill our own cartridges, it went wrong after a few weeks. The black started to leak out of the top, and the bottom.
For the ease, £4 cartridge gets 1000 black pages.
Sometimes, its just not worth trying to cut that much money out, and buying remanufactured cartridges will just do. The only issue we get is that the HP thing tells us its empty, but we accept it as we know its a lie.0 -
My husband also has a canon printer and spends a fortune on cartridges but his is the canon MG5250 - any ideas on compatible cartridges or are these refillable?
thanks0 -

Some years ago, we got a 'compatible' toner cartridge for the office photocopier. Toner went everywhere and the copier never worked again.
More recently, I bought 'compatible' inkjet cartridges for my HP DeskJet. Luckily, I noticed before I used them that, in small print on the pack, it said, 'not suitable for use in draft mode'. I do a high proportion of my printing in draft mode, both for speed and economy. To my surprise, however, the vendors accepted their return as being 'faulty'.0 -
But there are lots of companies that do ink cheaper than WH Smiths with next day delivery - I usually go for 999inks, but I've bought from the cartridgepeople in the past.
My rule of thumb is that when the printer is new I use the original cartridges, but when the printer is old enough that if it went wrong I'd happily chuck it out and buy a new one, I switch to compatibles. (I spent ages researching how to fix a Cannon Pixma injet printer that was a few years old, and couldn't find any where that would do it for me.)0 -
Not entirely.

Generic ink does NOT damage the printer - generic, cheaply made cartridges might well do !0 -
I have a Canon MP640 - just renewed my inks with same supplier as previously - 2 full sets for £13 delivered from MoreInks. I like the idea of refilling but I suspect my cack handed attempts would be more likely to damage the printer than compatible cartridges0
