That is a very high priced solicitor.
Me & my boyfriend have just bought our first house, get the keys Friday (yippieee) anyway for our solicitors fees we have paid....£450 plus the fees etc which makes a total of £750 and some of the searches are optional you dont have to have the chancel search or the enviromental searches, we chose not too.0 -

Make sure you get a solicitor, not a conveyencer - especially if using an online company.
Personally, I'd try and find a solicitor near to where you currently live. You will probably need to drop things in last minute (I nearly always have had to).

go for a walk into town and see 2 or 3 local outfits.
Get quotes from those and compare.
then google the 2 that you fancy to see if any opinions come online.
You may save £50 going online but you will be grateful for this locality when you have to go see them.
Also, never ever consider countrywide even if they offer to pay you for the process!Sealed pot challange no: 3390 -

I think this is a good idea and was going to say the same.
My son completed on his flat in February, solicitor was about £1000. Having said that, he is the senior partner of his firm (the underlings are cheaper
) and we have used him before on several occasions, also he is a specialist conveyancing solicitor and there were one or two issues with the flat, so welll worth the extra imho. (AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

Do not use a cheap online solicitor. The process can run smoothly if you use a solicitors firm you can actually physically go and see if something is going wrong. It also helps being able to quickly pick up and drop off documents rather than relying on postage. We paid £1100 for an excellent solicitor, i'd always pay that bit more for a good one as they are basically your eyes and ears for one of the biggest purchases of your life.MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0
