Can you recommend somewhere to buy ballet shoes?

My 5 year old daughter has just started ballet classes, I managed to get the rest of the uniform secondhand but I'm looking for a website to order the ballet shoes and socks as inexpensively as possible. Any ideas anyone?

You could try dancedirect.com. I think most childrens dance shoes are only £10 or thereabouts.

Personally, I'd never put my child in second-hand shoes, Feet are much too important.

OP - I googled for ballet shoes when my DD started baby ballet classes a few weeks ago and most sites they were £10, some went up to £15. But my DD's teacher had them just as cheap and saved me delivery costs!

Do your research online but then ask the teacher how much she can get them for before you decide what to do, she may be able to get them cheaper as she will buy in bulk/have a deal with a shop.

Ask at the dance school. The one I helped at always used to have second hand dance wear available, and the teacher knew where to get cheap new dancewear.

It's always good to be able to try dance shoes on and have someone who knows what they're doing check the fit. That way she'll have the best shoes for her feet, and they'll last longer.

for her first ones, I'd just go to the local dancewear shop (or the dance school if they sell them, although my DD's dance school is actually more expensive than the dancewear shop).
Then I'd ebay for her next ones a size up when she needs them (always lots of sellers on ebay selling new dance shoes and new dancewear).

Ballet shoes can be hard to size so I would recommend trying them on before buying. John Lewis sell them for around £10.

Hi my dd has been doing ballet for a few years, our dance school sell them pretty reasonably but as with most places you have to sew the elastic on yourself which I find extremely difficult! I buy on eBay new but with pre sewn elastics. You normally have to buy 1.5-2 sizes up for ballet shoes depending on the brand so make sure you read the description first.
    Like these ones for example

eBay is also great for socks, bun nets etc

I got mine from amazon, these ones although there are other colours: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002UO9RHG/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00
(they were my wedding shoes - can't do heels lol) I thought they were a good buy especially for only £6! I would also echo the good point made above re checking any sizing descriptions carefully before you order. I am a size 2.5 so on their advice got a 3.5 and after sewing the elastic bit on they were perfect fit and very comfy. HTH :)

For your first shoes I would buy from the dance school. They'll show you what size to get and how much room there should be.

From then on, there's nothing wrong with buying new from ebay. I get my DD's from there, she has a specific make and size she likes and they're about 1/3 of the cost of buying in shops.

    HTH
