Job seekers allowance question

Hi,

I was just wondering if you could possibly pick your brains?

I am working as a temp at the moment but I am leaving my job as of the 11th of June. This is because I am starting a graduate training scheme on the 24th of June (doing teacher training).

Between June-beginning August we do 6 weeks training (unpaid) and then have the whole of August off prior to starting teaching in a school in September.

I was wondering if I would be able to claim JSA for any of the period? Also, if this is possbile - do you have to claim your JSA from one office (in one location), as I may be travelling around the country a bit during this period.

Thanks in advance :)

To claim jsa you have to be looking for employment. And yes you sign on at the same place every 2 weeks

Are you going to be actively jobseeking during any of those periods of time?

Will you be available and willing to attend interviews, training and take up a job if it was offered to you?

Will you be able to attend the jobcentre (the same one each time) to sign on every fortnight?

Are you going to be classed as a registered student for the whole duration?

If your training is less than 16 hours a week ---- Yes you will be able to claim JSA...as long as you satisfy all other conditions of JSA. If the training is paid training then earnings will be deducted from JSA

If your training is 16 hrs or more per week ---- No you will not be able to claim JSA

After training has finished in August- Yes you can claim JSA as long as you are looking for temporary work to tide you over until your contract starts in September
