Tesco Clubcard Numbers

I've just opened a Tesco Credit Card, which apparently doubles-up as a Clubcard and has a Clubcard number embossed on it.

However, when completing the "Refer a Friend" form, I noticed that the number was two digits shorter than the spaces available on the form. My Clubcard number has only 16 digits, but there is space for 18 digits on the form.

I then checked a couple of other people's Clubcards, and they had 18-digit numbers - two digits longer than mine.

Are there different lengths of Clubcard numbers around?

I'm just worried that the number on the card might not be a "real" clubcard number, and I might not get the points for referral.

I have a Tesco Clubcard Mastercard. Any points I collect are credited to my existing 18-digit clubcard account number, which is different to the "clubcard number" which is printed on the credit card under my name, which is only 16 digits.

I have no idea why they print a shorter and different clubcard number on the credit cards.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just use the number you've been given and keep track of your points. If you register for online points access, you may be able to check that you're getting all the points you should.

If you look on your clubcard account it shows as a new card.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Thanks for the replies. The problem is I don't actually have any Clubcards other than the one that's built in to the credit card, which is not long enough to fill all the boxes on the referral form.

If someone can confirm that a 16-digit number can be a valid Clubcard number I'll be happy. Don't want to waste my referral points by using the wrong number.

Surprised this thread got moved to the Credit Cards forum. Seems rather less relevant than the forum I originally posted in. The query was to do with Clubcard Numbers, not the credit card itself, so I was targetting people who know stuff about Tesco Clubcards, not people who know stuff about Credit Cards. Oh well.

It's fine. it's a valid card number and clearly different from a normal club card. I've had friends put there's on the form and it works ok.

I think its a different size simply because far less credit cards have been issued than club cards, plus they need an easy way to determine the difference for things like when you buy fuel.

Use the number on the bottom starting 634... that's your Clubcard number. The number in the middle starting 5... is your Mastercard number.

He is. But it's only 16 digits long, unlike a normal clubcard number which is 18 digits long. That's what this discussion is all about.
